When the intense heat of summer goes down and and number of isles of stationery in a store go up, it can only mean one thing: back to school is just around the corner! While most parents begin back to school planning with supplies shopping, uniform re-evaluation, schedule development and carpool assignments, homeschooling parents began their back to homeschool planning before the school year ended.
Organization is key to success and sanity! Curriculum, stationery, assessments, electives, tutors, field trips and much more are all integral parts of an education, but most of these will fall into place once we, the educators, have organized and mentally prepared for the upcoming school year.
Whilst homeschoolers do not have to worry about school uniforms or school supply lists, we get the joys of reorganizing the bookshelves or cupboard spaces to make room for new books and part, with tears in our eyes, with old ones.
Despite the number of years that I’ve been homeschooling, I still begin my school year with an account-taking (muhasabah) session. This helps me take inventory and clear up both physical items and mental blocks.
For anyone looking for help in getting organized before getting started, join me online on Sunday Aug 23rd at 9am PST for a quick, one hour webinar on “Getting Ready For School!” We will discuss lesson planning tips, field trip organization, getting organized to stay ahead of the game and much more!
